Message from Mr. Maloney

Good Morning CAIHS Families,

I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day and if you were effected from Tropical Storm Ida you have started to return to normal. Last Friday, district and community members collected donations and provided physical support to help clean. I want to thank everyone who assisted.

Please enjoy the Welcome Back Video from our staff that the students viewed last week.

Welcome Back

Picture Retake Day

Since we were not in school last Friday, we had to reschedule Picture Day to Friday October 1st.

Chromebooks Information for Students

We will be continuing to call students to work with the IT department to provide students with their chromebooks and how to log into them. In addition, we are also replacing broken Chromebooks on a daily basis. For the new students, they are also learning how to log into Home Access and log into teachers' Canvas pages.

Please remember to have all returning students to bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged and with their chargers. This is extremely important as we start to dig into the curriculum this week and some assignments will have to be completed on their Chromebooks.

PBIS

School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is a system of tools and strategies for defining, teaching, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and correcting inappropriate behavior. The focus of SW-PBIS is to be a preventative program which will shift the focus from negative behaviors to positive expectations and behaviors and acknowledgement of those.

The Four main elements in SW-PBIS include:

  1. Supporting Social Competence and Academic Achievement
  2. Supporting Decision Making
  3. Supporting Student Behavior
  4. Supporting Staff Behavior

At CAIHS our behavior expectations are that our students R.O.C.K.

  • We have Respect
  • We have Ownership
  • We have Courage

Reward System:

Students will be given various rewards with this initiative. They will be given tickets that they will be able to use to “purchase” items on a weekly basis. For example: A homework pass, eating lunch with a preferred teacher, or leaving class 5 minutes early to walk by the coldest water fountain.

R.O.C.K. certificates will be given to students for going above and beyond. It will be the student’s responsibility to put their name on it and then put it in the box in the main office. Monthly, 20 names will be drawn for rewards. All students that receive a rock will be rewarded quarterly.

Classroom/ Period Charts will also be used. Teachers will reward their classes when they are all doing what is expected. When a chart is filled, students will be rewarded as a class.

  • We have Kindness
  • We are Safe

Our staff will be sharing these expectations with students and explicitly teaching them how they are to apply these character traits throughout their day in the building, at events, and virtually.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

Below you will see the directions on how to drop off students and pick up students from the Intermediate High School. In addition, we have added a short video to assist with this procedure.

Students can start to enter the building at 7:05 a.m. They can enter at the Main Entrance and Auditorium Entrance. All students must be in First Period by 7:25 a.m.

Students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. and they will board their buses. If picking up students , please drive safely.
